LeadRider is a navigation app for riding GPX tracks. It is made by Dream Big Tech in the Netherlands. In short: LeadRider has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Your tracks and your location stay on your phone, except for the requests to the routing and map services described below.
What stays on your phone
- The GPX tracks you import, and their names, colours and statistics.
- The navigation prepared for each track (road-matched route, turn instructions, riding time).
- Offline maps you download, and your settings such as the theme.
This data is stored only in the app's storage on your phone. Removing a track removes it and its offline map; uninstalling the app removes everything. We never receive a copy.
Your location
LeadRider uses your location on your phone to show where you are and to guide you along the track. While a ride is active, Android runs a foreground service with a visible notification, so guidance and voice continue with the screen off. The app only asks for location access while you use it; it does not request access in the background. We do not receive or store your location.
What is sent to other services
To provide navigation and maps, the app sends requests to two outside services:
- Routing: the Valhalla server of FOSSGIS e.V. (Germany). When a track is prepared, its points are sent to match it to the roads. When you start away from the track or leave it while riding, your current position and points on the track are sent to calculate the way there. These requests are not linked to you by LeadRider; FOSSGIS's own terms and privacy policy apply.
- Map tiles: OpenFreeMap. The map loads its images from OpenFreeMap, which therefore sees which map areas are loaded, both while viewing and when downloading an offline map. Requests carry a LeadRider app identifier.
Like any internet request, these services can see your IP address. LeadRider sends no name, e-mail address or device identifier to them.
Files you open
LeadRider only reads files you choose yourself: through the import button, or by opening a GPX file with LeadRider from another app. It does not browse your other files.
Permissions
- Location (while using the app): your position on the map and navigation.
- Notifications: the notification shown while a ride is active.
- Network state: to download offline maps automatically only on Wi-Fi.
Your rights
Because we do not collect or store personal data, there is nothing for us to show, correct or delete; you can remove all data yourself in the app or by uninstalling it. For questions, mail info@leadrider.app. You can also contact the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
Changes
If LeadRider starts handling data differently, this page is updated and the date above changes.
